OH: Biggest Energy Stories of 2014

Oil and gas drilling activity in eastern Ohio surged in 2014, with natural gas production showing considerable growth each quarter. That's no surprise – the Utica shale play still is an underdeveloped asset for producers. But low commodity prices could slow some of the growth earned in 2014, and one moderately sized Ohio driller already has nixed plans in the state for 2015. Nevertheless, 2014 was the best year yet for the Utica shale play, which saw continued, high-dollar investment from pipelines to hotels. Another potentially big story to emerge this year: A Canadian company announced testing on its first waterless-fracking Utica shale well, which, depending on its success, could have major implications on the industry.
