Marshall University has made a comparison of taxes imposed on the natural gas industry in West Virginia and other Appalachian Basin states: "The study’s authors, a team led by MU Vice President for Business and Economic Research Calvin Kent, looked at real and personal property taxes, severance taxes, corporate income taxes and sales and use taxes as well as permits, bonds and other environmental taxes or fees."
